Bowmore sponsored "Grand final"2003...

  • News of the past week

  • Winter League match results so far!
  • Howwood ~ 29 fish for 68lb 15oz
  • Allandale ~ 31 fish for 73lb 14oz
  • The final result is close for the first heat of the winter league against team Howwood from East Renfrewshire. With weights capped at a mere 3lb & out of season Brownies not counting at all, Howwood was perhaps at a slight disadvantage as they landed at least 3 Browns and a few capped larger fish also. But conditions were hard for all. Saturday was one of the rarer bright sunny days, flat calm and plumiting temperatures meant little of the Top of the water action our team is used to, so it was on with the blood worms and mini lures. The Top Rod of the day for Allandale was Brian Pender with 9 fish, closely followed by Nigel Burns & Wully Brash, who had 2 of his haul capped. We were all convinced our home team had been beaten by late afternoon, but only the weigh in prooved us thankfully wrong. However, with 3 heats to go and the next match an away at Howwood, this competion is far from over!
  • A Guid' New Year Comp!
  • Yes, officially winter is here and so we are already organising our annual Fly fishing competition to welcome in the New Year!
  • As always, to kick start a new season in style here at Allandale, we will be having our annual 'Guid' New Year', competition on Saturday the 3rd of January! (That's the first saturday of a whole new season folks). Names are being taken now & so is the £5.00 deposit that guarantee's your place at this event!.. Tight Lines all!..
  • Despite the sudden drop in temperature some superb 'top of the water' sport is expected, with some superb top of the water moments with fly and buzzers newly hatching regularly on warmer afternoons. Allandales resident Brownies are being tempted to the fly, more first thing in the morning as are many of the larger speciemen trout so it's worth getting on the water at the start of the session. See Best Flies and Tactics.

Callam Conner Livingston : For me the beauty of Allandale Tarn is that you can fish here all year using nothing but a floating line. From April to October the top of the water sport is fantastic have great success on buzzers and nymphs on long leaders also suspended below an indicator or dry fly New Zealand dropper style the latter is particularly effective during flat calms. I ony use 3 dry flies here "F" flies,Shipmans an Shuttlecock buzzers ranging in sizes from 12's down to 20's the smaller sizes will produce more takes but they require a well timed strike. From November to March I recommend starting with lures changing to fluorescent buzzers and okey-dokeys when the takes have dried up.I hope this advice is of help to anglers
