It's Winter League Time
2010/11!...

Match no.1, hosted by Arran View
Allandale's 12 man team won the first away leg of this four match Winter League against our old adversaries, recently re named 'The Paisley Patterns'. A big thank you to the away venue which this year was Arran View, picked by The Paisley patterns.  They very kindly put on a hot lunch and gave both teams a couple of Cortland lines for the top two rods.

Although actually 4 fish behind,  Allandale  ended the first match a solid 18lb ahead, however the opposition have admittedly a knack of pulling a few pounds back at The Tarn and they were two men down for this first match. Allandales  Team Captain George Stevenson knows all too well that home turf doesn't necessarily equate to an advantage when it comes to this battle, which has been running for some 15 years now.
The whole team did excellent and a special big thankyou to                  Peter Maucha, who has been fishing with us in these matches for longer than I can remember, despite  him having to travel all the way from Blairgowrie!.

The second leg will be here on December 4rth and I'm not saying which team my money would be on!..

*Decembers match was postponed due to the big freeze!

Match no.2, hosted at Allandale Tarn
After the long freeze, Saturday finally saw in the second leg of the Winter league.
The first half of the day wasn't seeing either team with a discernible lead, as the Team Captains  gathered a rough tally of fish numbers and tactics over lunch. Fishing had been steady & continuous so far and thankfully the 70+ mph winds even The Tarn saw the day before, had long gone prior to the teams setting up for the days event.
It was a tense start after lunch. Fishing had slowed, very few breaking the waters surface, but for most this lull wasn't to last.  Some of the Paisleys team soon started picking up fish at different  sections of the water & soon it was looking like they had nailed the tactics that were going to work. Then finally some of the Allandale lot started to pick off fish too & it was starting to look like an even competition again & fingers were crossed that we might make back some of the numbers we had lost so soon after the break! With the speed some of the other teams guys were hooking up though, it was becoming evident that luck wasn't with us today!
The bag limits were 4 fish then 2lb allocated for every fish released after. All fish capped at 4lb max.
The days results were: Allandale Tarn - 55 fish landed @ 112lb 09oz
                                               Paisley Patterns - 86 fish landed @ 169lb 6oz
After taking into account the results of the first heat, the Paisley Pattern's are now in the lead with a 40lb 10 oz advantage.

John Airlie was Allandale's Top Rod of the day, with a solid 14b fish landed by himself. Tempted on a floating line to either his own blood worm buzzer or Pink Blob.
The Paisley Pattern's Top man of the day was Dean, finishing with a staggering 33 fish tempted to him own UV pink & also Chartreuse Apts variants.

Despite the running lead after the second match, Paisley Pattern's team Captain Robert Lamb reminded us all, that this kind of defasit has been won back before and so his team shouldn't  get too comfortable  going into  3rd match in two weeks time!..

There's no escaping that todays battle was well & truly lost on our home water, but as Robert stated 'it's been won back before', so I say bring it on!.. Lol......

Tight lines Allandale!..

Match no.3, hosted at Allandale Tarn

2010 Summer Dry Fly League match results

Allandale~v~The Paisley Patterns

Saturday afternoon finally saw in the last heat of the annual Dry Fly Summer League match! The final results were;

Allandale               48 fish @ 102lb 15oz

Paisley Patterns  32 fish @ 69lb 1oz

These matches were postponed for various reasons this year, pushing them into the cooler weather where obvious fly life was less abundant. So these were not the easiest dry fly only matches ever fished. Some cracking fish were hooked & lost on both sides and despite Team Allandale going into the away match only 1 fish ahead, we brought the trophy home yet again!

Well done everyone & tight lines for the Winter league matches!...
