FLY TYING CLUB!
Allandale's Fly Tying Club is on every Tuesday evening from 7pm ~ 9pm ish, everyone welcome!

Tying club week ahead line up!

Week 3 of the tying club, Tuesday November 22nd: Well that's the 2nd evening of tying club over for another week! I had forgotten just how much there is to learn about all the differnt types of capes available to us these days & the various ways you can tye with them. I barely got half of it covered. Time for a test of tying skills, so next week we'll switch to buzzers & tying more accurately. Towards the end I'll demonstrate a 'woven tail', for nymphs/damsel lures & the following week we'll revisit hackles & see what else we can do with them, including 'interlocking', for extra bouyant dry flies!.

Remember you don't have to follow this demo of course, you can just come along & do your own thing & maybe share some of what you already know with some of the others!..

Let me know if you are coming along!.. Each week we will set out differn't tying skills to concentrate on learning. But by all means you can come along & feel free to do your own thing. This is about us teaching each other the best way to tye flies, swap tips etc right down to the best tactics to fish them!..

There's a small fee of £3.00 a night to cover the coffee etc.

Send me an email if your interested in joining in!..

A synopsis of each tying club night!

Week 1 of the tying club, November 8th:

Thanks to everyone who came along for the first night of the tying club & most especially a big thankyou to Paul Buchanan who came along to talk a little about entomology & fly fishing.
For this tying club, we want to make tying flies relevant to your fishing, so that you have an understanding of why you tye flies a particular way & how this effects your fishing/catch rates. Paul gave us all a fantastic handout to take away also, containing some great images, info on beasties & a superb match the hatch guide for both loch style & river fshing. Definetly a booklet for keeping!

These tying nights are also about swapping tips & knowledge with each other. So also a big thanks to Lee moore for demonstrating how to use an actual whip finish tool, as neither myself nor Paul had a clue on that wee device. We're both all fingers when it comes to finishing flies but I know many tyers find a finishing tool much easier!..

Week 2 of the tying club, November 15th:
This week we're concentrating on hackles!
We'll be starting with a down eyed, wet fly, hot spot Spider (Hen cape), then an up eyed dry Gnat (genetic cock hackle & natural cock to compare). Then on to a Palmered Kate McKlaren, followed by an artificial hackled, long shank  lure!
You don't have to follow this demo of course, you can just come along & do your own thing & maybe share some of what you already know with some of the others!..

Happy tying!
